Intellectual property rights (IPR), i.e. trademark, design, copyright and patents are also very important considerations to protect the investors from their spending in branding, advertising, product design and product development. In view of illegal transhipment and parallel imports, IPR issues are drawing increasing attention around the world. The Intellectual Property Department of HKSAR Government provides patent, trademark and design registration services to the public in Hong Kong and maintains an online database of records of registered trade marks and trade mark applications pending before the Trade Marks Registry.
